Creating a clean burning unit is a top priority in our design work. Simply putting a cooktop on top of a firebox can often lead to overpowering the cooktop while trying to load the masonry with heat. One of the innovative features of this design is a smoke valve which is used to switch between two completely different flame paths in the firebox. The combination of air coming in from the door as well as the grate allows for adjustment of both primary and secondary air in each configurations resulting in a very clean burn. This design draws on both contemporary masonry heater, batch box and rocket mass heater design.
