Cookstove & Masonry Heater Hybrid

Here are the current versions of the project files:

The goal of this design project is to create an extremely efficient and clean burning unit that combines the functions of a cookstove with prolonged masonry heat storage.

The design features an extremely efficient firebox which provides adjustable primary and secondary air in both burn configurations. The design also includes options for an oven, heating hot water, and adding a heated bench. It’s has been nicknamed the “mothership” because of the way

As far as we know, this is original design work and here are several ways that you can support this project:

Or you can purchase hardware individually!…

The project draws on medium-sized “batch-box” development and uses bypass dampers as switches to significantly alter the flow through the heater depending on the output desired.

An important part of the project is to experiment with an open-source flow for project development.

This page serves as a central organizational hub for the Cookstove Masonry Heater Hybrid project. The design incorporates elements of rocket mass heater, batch box heater, and masonry heater design into one clean burning, multifunctional stove. It uses pivoting bypass dampers to toggle between flow configurations inside the heater, specifically between mass heating and cookstove functions. Nicknames for this project are “the Hybrid” and the “Mothership”.

It is important to know that this is still an experimental stove design. Our preference is that you wait until the current project I am building goes into use in the field so we can verify it’s performance.

All support and input on the project will happen through the forums. This aspect is still being organized with the goal that all project-related discussion is categorized together and that plan purchasers have a private forum to discuss the project.

When you are ready, here is the link to the hardware for the project.
